Yeah, sort of puts President Obama's influence and ability to reach out to people diplomatically in perspective. The IOC would rather have a country where this is going on than what he argued for.
But he'll save us all from the terrorists of the world and stop Iran from getting nukes, because he's smarter, and he's better, and gosh darn it, people like him.
I live in a city called Niteroi, wich is very close to Rio (about 15km). My family lives in Rio de Janeiro and my brother lives pretty near the area where they shot the helicopter. He told me he never heard such a gunfight (in about 20 years of usual gun shots every night).
It´s very sad indeed Rio has put this show for all the world just 2 weeks after beeing choosen for the olimpycs. Personally I don´t think our government has the abillity to end this war till 2016. It will happen the same things that happen when the pope came to Rio. The drugdealler´s are not interested in terrorism, but in profit. Dureing this kind of event, the police makes a greta pression on the dealer´s gangs and the "agree" to stay put untill the event is over, so the city has a few day in peace... and when the tourists are gone, everything goes back to "normal".
Sad, but this is how things goes here. =/
Anyway, I liked to see that the site didn´t distorted the event, and showed what really happened. I thank Izismile staff for the honesty.
