Gorillas form part of the bush meat diet of the Congolese. Bush meat includes any mammal or other animal with enough meat on it's bones which comes from the surrounding forests. It is also used for "muti" (medicinal purposes).
The gorillas are actually not the target of hunting, it's one kind of metal mineral which I can't remember the name. This mineral is needed as one of the materials to produce a 'cell phones'' (Not sure which part, the body or the battery part). Anyway it is said abt 60% of this mineral found were from Columbia, in the hills where these gorillas live. It is actually ILLEGAL to do mining there but, as you see, money are important to these people. However don't just blame only them, the cell phone producers buy the minerals from black markets which all the processes are too complicated to be tracked by legal institutions. One thing we can stop this, or at least extend the time these gorillas being killed > don't use your cell phone uselessly. A lot of people even change their phone in two weeks. The more you buy (new) cell phone, the more the producer buy that mineral, hence the death og those gorillas....
