The animal was just interested and wished to investigate and found the sailor to be quite tasty, despite the dusty boots ;)

Sea captain Jerome Poncet was in deep sleep on Antarctic beach, and his companions didn’t wake him up because they understood from the elephant seal’s body language that the animal was just interested and wished to investigate.
