The Oldie of the Day (9 pics)

Posted in Random » Weird   14 Nov 2011   / 5167 views

These are photos of an aircraft that survived hail that was the size of a tennis ball. The pilot managed to safely land the plane. Luckily, no one was hurt. This story occurred in Canada in 2006, but we haven’t shared it with you yet.

So, a plane can survive this kind of onslaught but a bird in the engine will bring it down???

This is a testament to the amazing engineering that goes into these planes. However, it seems miraculous that this plane could fl through tennis ball sized hail and land safely, but other planes get taken out by "bird strike".

holy hell... that must have been scary having the windshield almost get smashed in. instant demolition.

a bird in the engine can STOP the engine and/or cause a fire in there. very different situation than having your exterior beat up.
