they didn't mutilate themselves with tattoos and piercings, their dress was light-hearted and playful, they felt strongly about various issues but weren't obnoxious about it, they knew better than to think that america was the center of the universe, their music was playful and open-minded, they were into green solutions before green solutions were even a concept (or trendy), and they were more spiritual than narcissistic.

in short, these girls would never make it in today's world.

I am also with Gigantes. They were fresh, clean, healthy and enjoying life unencumbered by today's pressures and media expectations. I would say that back them women had more self confidence and awareness of themselves than they do now. The pressure on today's young women is brutal and created by the corparate mentality to sell product and secure their own success. Be skinny, own this, wear that!!! Poor girls hardly have a chance.
