If launching it above water, why did it have to go under water? Seems like a lot of trouble could have been saved by just aiming it upwards.

that's why more info would be good- probably would explain all that. only thing i can think of is that water might somehow make a better launch platform than a ship's deck.

i read a somewhat interesting point that this type of munition can be used on a boat of almost any size, because the launch does not need almost any counterweight.
