The pancake batter in the ketchup bottle doesn't work because it's nearly impossible to get the batter into the bottle. You can put the dry mix in first and then add water/milk but it's very hard to mix it thoroughly.
Most of these are good ideas, but number 3 doesn't work. I've tried it before and while it may work if a pot is just barely ready to boil over, it sure as heck doesn't stop more than the tiniest amount.
