Have they never heard of the Donner family? They had much worse conditions but they still survived! It sounds to me like these kids were wimps!

Christine Warner abandoned her two children, 3 and 10 years old, with their bedridden, 87 year old great grandmother in order to spend a weekend at the Orlando theme park, “Universal Studios”. Authorities were alerted to the situation when the older girl visited a neighbour for food. They found the grandmother dazed and confused; the girls filthy and the house so dirty that it was virtually uninhabitable. Police have since arrested the mother on charges of neglect.
