Sand, while composed of many things, including silicon dioxide, is rigidly defined by particle size. The silicon dioxide commonly used as a food additive is orders of magnitude smaller and aids in preventing of clumping, etc. According to this sophomoric intellect, almost EVERYTHING we eat has sand in it.
