Bodie, California
Bodie began its initial decline with the 1912 closure of its newspaper, the Bodie Miner. By the following year the Standard Consolidated Mine had closed. In 1914 mining profits were at an all-time low of 6,821. Three years later, the Bodie Railway abandoned service and scrapped its iron tracks. The last mine closed in 1942. Mining never resumed.
