It blows my mind that Britain is so powerless now. They were the original super power and most advanced nation on earth during the industrial revolution and had the most wide-reaching empire.

ree is correct, though. the united states did indeed set the revolutionary model for the rest of the world. of course, the key ideas came from the works of european philosophers, and crucial help in winning the war came from france. let's not forget that either.

but actually, we reneged on our debt to france almost right away. in the early 1790's, revolutionary france asked for a return of favors and washington very slyly / pragmatically refused on technicality. so much for the spirit of revolution.

Exactly! I'm planning to visit New Zealand someday, for real.
All of these are pretty creative though!
New Zealand got so much more tourist attention after Lord of the Rings.
