For the most part, yes. But I recently read an interview with David Lee Roth of Van Halen, who had the notorious "no brown M&M's" pointon their rider, long thought to be the pinnacle of pretentiousness. It turned out they put it in to make sure concert organizers actually read the rider carefully so that they made no mistakes when it came to the 75 pages of health and safety requirements for crowd control, lighting, security and other items necessary for concerts to go off without accidents, injuries or worse.
