Don't blame Obamacare for the bills.. US bills have been insane for decades. 5 days for me sans insurance was $60k. Since I was self pay, they DISCOUNTED it to around $30k.
Let that sink in... BECAUSE of insurance, the hospitals charge more.. It's all corrupt.

Their markups on goods is insanely high also. If you get an injection, they charge for the medicine, the syringe, the cotton swab to wipe the needle, the alcohol (and swab) to wipe your arm, the nurse's time, the rubber hose they wrap around your arm, and disposal fees.

Ree is quite correct. The markup is incredible, and insurance fraud is rampant. Go through those pages line by line and you'll see things like a "visual pregnancy test" (You don't look pregnant to me?) for $147

Take a look at page 2 of the bill - Naproxen 500mg tab - $25.00. The same pain reliever you can get at any drug store for pennies.
