Benjen Stark's reveal as a savior of Meera and Bran in season six was a huge surprise to fans. His storyline seemed similar to another fan favorite character in the book called Coldhands who is described as a sort of hybrid human/wight — both dead and undead at the same time.

Benjen told Bran and Meera he was not able to help them cross the Wall because of the magic within it, and instead would go off to fight the Others.

It's a mystery, however, how he plans to fight the White Walkers and their massive army — if he can at all.
