Ferngully
This was Robin Williams’ first role in an animated film.
In Spain it was dubbed into Spanish entirely by comedian Ángel Garó, a single-handed feat that earned him entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
The “FernGully” forest depicted in the film was actually based on Australia’s rainforests. The cartoonists who worked on the film spent time in the real rainforests to help inspire their drawings.
Heavyweights
As part of a first date with his eventual wife Judd Apatow tried to impress Leslie Mann by showing her this film.
Shaun Weiss was originally not interested in acting the film, but he changed his mind when he found out that if he did not act in the film, he would not be allowed to act in D3: The Mighty Ducks.
While filming the scene where the kids have a party after locking up Tony Perkis and restoring the camp back to the way it was, Aaron Schwartz (Gerry) injured his arm. His cast had to be hid in scenes featuring him.
Little Giants
Devon Sawa was 15 during filming and much taller than his 10 year old castmates so he can be seen wearing only socks in some scenes.
This movie was inspired by an early 1990s McDonald’s ad about Pee-Wee Football that ran during the Super Bowl. The day after it aired, Steven Spielberg liked it so much that he called up the ad’s creator, James Ferguson, and hired him to write the script for what became “Little Giants.”
Camp Nowhere
This is Jessica Alba’s film debut, and she was initially hired as a two-week extra with no lines. Later, she had to fill in for a principal character and received her first on-screen credit.
The Witches
After a test screening, Roald Dahl angrily expressed to the producers how “appalled” he was at “the vulgarity, the bad taste” and “actual terror” in certain parts of the film. Dahl demanded his name and the title be removed from the film prior to release, but after receiving an apologetic, complimentary letter from Jim Henson, Dahl grudgingly withdrew his threat.
Rookie of the Year
When Henry’s mother (Amy Morton) is celebrating Henry scoring a run after being walked, she hits her head on the lamp hanging above her. Morton obviously didn’t mean to do this: she is visibly hurt and after sitting down mutters “oh… shit,” but it’s dubbed out and you have to lip read.
Most of the witches in the meeting are men in women’s clothing.
It took 8 hours in makeup for Angelica Houston to turn into her gruesome character the Grand High Witch.
Drop Dead Fred
Robin Williams was offered the role of Drop Dead Fred, but instead chose to play Peter Banning in the Steven Spielberg film Hook. That was a good move, seeing as critics hated the film, some even going as far as calling it “the worst movie of 1991.”

The film took almost 3 1/2 years to complete.
The Indian in the Cupboard
Lynne Reid Banks wrote her original novel as a bedtime story for her son, Omri.
One of the toys that the boys bring to life is Darth Vader from the Star Wars series. Frank Oz, who directed this film, portrayed Yoda in the Star Wars franchise.
Cool Runnings
Contrary to the story in movie, the Jamaican team was met with open arms by the international Bobsledding teams. One of the other teams even went so far as to lend the Jamaican team a back-up sled so they could qualify.
At the time, it was the highest grossing live action film released under the Walt Disney Pictures banner.
Now and Then
In the scene where Chrissy punches Roberta in the face for pretending to drown, ‘Christina Ricci’ forgot to turn her head and ended up getting punched in the face full force. The production was shut down few days due to Christina being badly bruised.
