When a street cleaner in Saudi Arabia was spotted looking at jewelry through the window, he was mocked online for this. The guy who posted this photo on Instagram commented, "This man deserves to only look at rubbish hahaha."
But a lot of Saudis disagreed, so they organized on Twitter to find him and send him some gifts. One man on Twitter wrote, “…I urge those who know this worker to get in touch with me. I have a free set of gold jewelry for him.” After some time, the cleaner was identified. His name is Nazer al-Islam Abdul Karim, 65, and he was located as working in a market in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
He has since been presented with many gifts from different people. Some of his gifts were jewelry sets, money, bags of rice and honey, return tickets to his home country and an iPhone 7 and a Samsung Galaxy.
After all this online media exposure Karim said that he didn’t realize that someone took a photo of him at that time. He said, “'I was just doing my job as a cleaner in the municipality and found myself in front of the gold shop. I am very happy about the gifts and very thankful.”
It’s one of those stories which warms your heart and restores your faith in humanity. Kudos to everyone who has helped Karim!
