Thomas Cowperthwait Eakins (1844 - 1916) was an American realist painter, photographer, and sculptor. He is widely considered to be one of the most important artists in American art history. His last painting was a portrait of Dr. Edward Anthony Spitzka, painted in 1913. It can be found in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C.
