#2 north and south holland are countries in the netherlands. In dutch they're called "provincies' which translates to......

anyway: the netherlands has more that just those 2: there's Groningen, Friesland, Overijssel, Drente, Gelderland, Utrecht, Noord Brabant, Zeeland, Limburg, and North and South Holland. (did I miss one?)

I come from the latter

How many provinces does Holland have?

It doesn’t have any. It used to be a province, but today it is split into North Holland and South Holland. The country as a whole is the Netherlands, and Dutch people who don’t live in either North or South Holland tend to dislike referring to the country by that name. It would be like referring to the US as New York.
