Transmutation of Species
Introduced by French naturalist Jean Baptiste Lamarck in his 1809 book Philosophie Zoologique, transmutation of species was the first fully formed scientific theory of evolution. Arguing that new species were created by transformation of others, the theory was later rendered obsolete by Darwinian evolution and Mendelian genetics.
