German-born British astronomer William Herschel is famous for many impressive discoveries but he was also the author of several scientific theories that seem completely insane these days. For example, he believed that the Sun’s surface was cold and fully inhabitable, populated by aliens whose heads were acclimated to the enormous amount of light.
