December 7, 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked US military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii without warning. Following the attack, Japan officially declared war on the US. This was immediately followed by the war message from President Roosevelt who then and signed a formal declaration of war against Japan.

Many of the photos were all taken in the days before Pearl Harbor, during the great depression. It was a more innocent time when nearly half of all Americans still lived in small towns or on farms.
