Russians are pros at disguising their number plates to avoid paying for parking. They have devised a few ways of hiding their registration from the street cameras and it seems like almost anything will work including tape, socks, CD’s, gum etc. Surprisingly, parking only costs $1 or $2 so it’s a bit funny that people driving expensive cars such as Mercedes Benz’s or Bentley’s would go to this extreme to avoid paying the small tariff.
The music channel, VH1, hosted a competition in 1988 where people had to call into the studio at a cost of $2 in order to enter to win the grand prize of 36 Chevrolet Corvette cars (all models from 1953 to 1989 (model 1983 was missed, because in his time was taken out of production)). Dennis Amodeo won the competition but received money in place of the cars as a contemporary American artist, Peter Max, wanted to use the collection for his work. The cars remained parked in a garage for over 25 years and have only now been sold to a family who are planning to refurbish these vintage collector’s items.
No one was injured in the crash but the female driver responsible for the accident was taken to a local hospital. She was driving home from working a midnight shift and fell asleep behind the wheel. She will be charged with minor traffic violations.
