These photos give one a retro look at our visions of the future from yesteryear thru the artwork from Soviet and European popular tech and science magazine illustrations dating from the ‘30s thru the ‘70s. In other words what we thought the future would look like when we thought about it years ago. They provide an interesting perspective of where we are and what we can expect in the future. ![]() If men wrote the articles for women’s magazines you can bet there would be some very different subjects on the cover. ![]() Meet Hugh Hefner, a father of Playboy magazine. He was born in 1926 and singlehandedly revolutionized the sex in magazine industry more than half a century ago. He left Esquire magazine in 1952 after being denied a $5 raise just to launch a world famous magazine. Its first issue featured Marilyn Monroe. He has been listed as one of the 50 most powerful people in porn. Since then he has opened numerous Playboy clubs around the world and now an 84-year-old-man who resides in a mansion in Los Angeles, California with three girlfriends. ![]() This is actually a game (if we can call it that way) published at the end of the magazine Life, 16 Oct. 1939. One had to fold the paper according to the written instructions. Can you guess what will appear on the paper once folded properly? )) ![]() Whether it is Playboy, The New Yorker, Rolling Stones, Time Magazine, Life, The Economist, Wired…etc, all these covers were at a time a subject of controversy. And whatever were the reasons of the controversy, some of these covers sold lots of magazines and some were nothing but embarrassments… Take a look at this interesting but non exhaustive list inside the post. Time Magazine, April 8, 1966: Is God Dead? This cover has been called the most controversial of all time. The related article concerned the “death of god movement” that had sprung up in the 1960’s. The cover and article enraged readers. ![]() The famous 48-year-old Susan Boyle, Britain’s Got Talent 2009 favourite, made the cover of American Harper’s Bazaar magazine for August 2009. I must say they made a great makeover for the photo shoot and she looks good in her shinny dress. The list turned out to be very interesting and worthy of attention. I was surprised to see the result for the fist place, but the second place is ok Let’s see ) ![]() |
