At 13,133 feet (4,000 meters) above the ground, located on the north-eastern ridge of the Matterhorn, the Solvay Hut is owned by the Swiss Alpine Club and is used for providing food and shelter to mountaineers, climbers and hikers. Named after Ernest Solvay, it was first built in 1915 and then rebuilt in 1976 and equipped with a telephone.
