Amputation Knife (1700s)Knives used for amputations during the 18th century were typically curved, because surgeons tended to make a circular cut through the skin and muscle before the bone was cut with a saw. By the 1800s, straight knives became more popular because they made it easier to leave a flap of skin that could be used to cover the exposed stump.

Before, the participants of beauty contests were completely different from what we can see today.
And what is interesting, the girls could be big, small, slim or thick etc, but each of them, EACH, was lovely. What I saw at first were their eyes, their look. They had something more compared to girls you see today with a deformed and almost artificial beauty...
Today, when the most important are breasts and body for competitions of this kind, no one cares about the eyes.

Let’s make a little journey into the past today.
I just want to share with you what I have learnt recently. It’s about all the crazy things that our grand-parents came up with )) I couldn’t even imagine that 50-60 years ago people could thought through such things )
Well, many of these inventions are hilarious, stupid, incredible or simply useless. But still, it’s interesting to know the way people saw things back then )
I spent many hours on the modernmechanix looking through dozens of inventions and selected the best of them, in my opinion!
