Well, it is easy. They do the markings themselves :)
Beijing, the capital of China, is a very busy city and it is almost impossible to find a spot to park. So people are bringing some king of handmade “carpets” that match the color of the road with parking markings and then they put a fake parking sign and voila.
The police say they can only arrest these people if they catch them red-handed, otherwise they don’t touch them.

Some of the following images remind me of snow, ice and waves. But they all are clouds seen from space. Beautiful and fascinating photos that personally I find fantastic and mysterious.
If you like to observe clouds, you can also check out Heaven out of the Airplane Window.

Russian astronaut Maksim Surayev aboard the International Space Station started his blog which is becoming more and more popular. Mostly, because of his original writing and the interesting things and weird pictures he’s talking about. All of this is mixed with humor and makes this blog unique.
Recently, he was talking about what ‘space smells like’, he wrote if you strike two granite stones with one another, it will give you this exact smell. Well, need to go there to smell it for myself :)
Or all the confusions in translation of canned food from Russian to English and vice versa.
He also wrote that all the astronauts on board have their little hobby, like, for example, growing lettuce and wheat, writing poems and diaries etc.
Now let’s take a look at the pictures.

The pics were taken by NASA astronauts from the International Space Station. At first, the pics were not interesting because all of them were blurred, but techniques and devices evolved over the years and now, you can have beautiful clear photos.
One interesting thing is that Tokyo seen by night is rather green while other cities are more orange/yellow. In fact, the majority of the urban area in Tokyo has light green mercury vapour lamps instead of orange sodium vapour lamps.
You will see pictures by night of London, Madrid, Athens, Cairo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and lots more.

“View the Milky Way at 10 million light years from the Earth.
Then move through space towards the Earth in successive orders of magnitude until you reach a tall oak tree… After that, begin to move from the actual size of a leaf into a microscopic world that reveals leaf cell walls, the cell nucleus, chromatin, DNA and finally, into the subatomic universe of electrons and protons”.

The four Spanish students from the IES La Bisbal school of Catalonia have sent a camera to the stratosphere at a distance of 20 miles above the earth to take beautiful photos you’ll see after the jump.
It may seem very simple: a $77 digital camera Nikon Coolpix, a $60 latex balloon filled with helium, a few calculations and hop, you have great photos without using super expensive NASA equipment.
In truth, it was more complicated than that. But the idea is good and moreover, it was successful.
In bottom of the page, you will find links to flickr and the site (in Catalan) of these students for more details.
