It is already a nearly 16-year-long fight — longer than any other US foreign war and most other military operations, and the US is still not winning against the forces of Taliban. There are currently 8400 US troops, and Trump administration is planning on sending 5000 more there to support Afghan units fighting the Taliban, as well as to counter ISIS and Al Qaeda elements.
The battle for Syria’s largest city is going on for almost four and a half years. Recently a ceasefire agreement was reached allowing civilians to evacuate. Over 30 thousands people are reported as victims since the beginning of the war in 2012, and one of the world’s most famous cities built of white marble, which Aleppo was, now lies in ruin. This includes the Great Mosque built in 8th century and the citadel of Aleppo. These photos remind of Europe post-World War II and it’s heartbreaking that some of the damage to this ancient city is beyond recovering.
While Syria is ravaged by war, the relatives of the men who helped establish today's Syrian regime get their kicks from living a luxurious life in London and Paris after fleeing the country. They sleep safely in their huge mansions, drive expensive supercars, have all they need and even more. Basically, they live in a whole other world compared to their compatriots.
