Actually the engines didn't have to produce that much. The plane is designed to fly very close to the water surcafe using an effect that gives it more lift while there. It's basicly a very fast hovercraft.
The thing I find interesting is the clear military nature of the thing. Usually prototypes of even military planes don't have so overt weaponsystems (machinegun pod in the back and, of course, the (probably) anti-surface missile pods on the top).
This is "the EKRANOPLAN". The biggest troop carrier ever built.It was built in the "cold war"period.It flew only 2-3 meters above the water.It's virtualy invisible to any radar and any sonar built. It's just a prototype. Hasn't been built another one like it(only smaller versions). Could carry 1000 ( one thousend )troopers with all their gear. It's just AMAIZING!!!
