one in 1000 people is born with non-specific genitals and or a "wrong" (=other than the genitals indicate) hormon household. in ear4lier days the parents were asked what they wanted and then the person was "fixed" into that direction and got hormon therapy.
the rare case of a real hermaphrodite, though i´ve met one, also involves that the hormon household changes by itself from time to time: the deepness of the voice, the adamsapple, etc change accordingly too: as does the mood of the person. so yes, there are many people were it would be better to write than in their passports
