Actually, Lord Of the Rings part is nonsense imagined by some idiot which doesn't know what was going in the whole story. PS. No you couldn't use eagles to fly into heart of Mordor because of Nazguls and dragons. They were far more powerful than anyone one the 'white' side.
oh, come on..we've all read it and as magical and interesting the story is, there were some flaws. Sure, it's captivating, but just as they tried a diversion at the end - why not send like 20 eagles and pretend to attack Mordor, then the eagles swoop in and drop the ring :) that would've saved us several agonizing hours of hobbit faggotry, which really brought tears of sheer pain and horror to my eyes...
And if the story really did go like that you'd complain how stupid and short it was...LOTR is not my favorite book serial but it is one of the most famous in the world for a reason! Same goes for the other examples here too, something has to make the story interesting!
I think some of you are missing a point here. Frodo was kinda chosesn to carry out the task because Gandalf thought he would resist the temptation to have and use a great power. Who knows, maybe one of those eagles would fail this task. On the other hand, it was kinda stupid if you think about Golum, who was a hobbit once, and succumbed to the ring.
