Yep, in the ol' days, fat people were an oddity and you'd have to go to a circus sideshow to see one. Now they are everywhere and can be seen in plentiful numbers at the local McDonalds...
I'm glad the circuses took them in. The main aim, of course, was to make money off their unfortunate conditions, but it also gave them a living. A strong community developed, making it more like a family who looked out for each other.
Those were far better times for freaks than today is. They had jobs, they were a part of a community and some were stars. IMO much better than the condescending shit they go through today.
