3 x 9 = 27
food costs 25 as boss said but they paid 27 because waiter has 2 in his pocket.

because you 'conveniently' forget to add that (0.333... x 3) = the missing 1 Euro

I've heard this "mystery" before and sure looks confusing
but it really isn't, the final outcome actually is wrong

They paid 27 euros total... That's 25 for the meal and
2 more that the waiter has. 25 + 2 = 27

There are no questions about that, but when people add the
"Well, they paid 30 first". It doesn't matter, because that
amount is irrelevant when the waiter gives them back
the other 3 euros, those 3 euros get out of the equation and
can't be added to the "mystery" when the final amount is now 27

Simply said, we have two situations.
They paid 30. 25 for the meal, 2 for the waiter and 3 back. That's 30
And the second situation is that they paid 27 euros, 25 for the meal
and 2 for the waiter (The 3 euros back cannot be taken into consideration
because it's like they never even gave that)

I hope it's clear

The waiter did it wrong. If he kept back 2 euros from 30 that leaves 28, which is not evenly divisible by 3. If the waiter keeps back 3 euros that leaves 27, which is divisible by 3.

there is no troll logic here. they each paid 9 (1/3) dollars... no one said it had to be whole dollars. or simply said the meal cost them 28 dollars total (which happens)

men pay 30euro - total paid = 30
men get 3 euro back - total paid = 30 - 3 = 27

LOL... this is getting ridiculous!

It's simple maths to solve the so call 'missing 1 Euro'...

>> 30 - 5 = 25 (5 Euro is the discounted amount)

>> 25 + 3 = 28 (3 Euro is the amount the waiter gave back)

>> 28 + 2 = 30 Euro! (2 Euro is the amount the waiter kept)

So there's no question of where the 1 Euro 'magically poof' :D

The Boss has 25
The waiter has 2
Each man has 1 (for a total of 3)

That's the whole 30!

Okay - meal coast 25€ instead of 30€.
25/3 = 8.33 for each Chinese.
Add 1€ return from waiter to each Chinese and you get 9.33€ cost per meal.
9.33 + 3 = 28
28 + 2€ which the waiter kept is 30€.
So now missing euro.

It's like saying: A 5 year old girl wants to marry a 15 year old boy. He was 3 times older than her so she waits 5 years. She is 10 years old and he's 20 years old. Now he's only 2 times older. How long will it take before she catches up to his age???

They pay 30, get 3 back, and that's it. They payed 27, adding 2 isn't relevant.

Lols, at the last euation it should be minus two

3x9=27

27-2 which the waiter kept =25

so overall the customer paid 25,

and the 2 coin was kept by the waiter and returned the three

25+2+3 = 30, hahaha

The logical way to look at this is 'Total Money In equals Total Money Out' ... and you cannot dispute that!
So 30 Euros = Total Money IN ( you cannot dispute that ).

Total Money Out = 25 Euros cost of meal + 3 Euros back to customers + 2 Euros in Pocket . = 30 Euros. You cannot dispute that!

Welll... this whole riddle is messed up because they are in China. They don't pay in Euro. Which means there is no missing Euro because it's not possible. :)
