the inverse is true - if you know the time, you can find north - a stick in the dirt will work

Yeah ppl usually use the umbrella in the sunny weather....
This parasol is a clock as well as a functioning umbrella. When you pop it open you can see what time it is. This of course means that you have to take the umbrella with you everywhere you go.
