A lot of them are probably tattoo artists or body piercers themselves and a few of them look old enough to be retired and no longer need to conform to what businesses consider a "professional appearance". Many businesses that have a work force that doesn't typically deal with the public are relaxed about tattoos.
Being an artist myself, I support tattoos... but I've never liked facial tattoos.
