What about building better houses, like concrete buildings with half a meter thick walls and roof, along with detachable steel cover for doors and windows.
Fortunately, most of Joplin is white, so they will fix whatever's broken and go on with life. If they had been like the residents of New Orleans, they would all be crowding around the news cameras and whining about needing help and how the government isn't moving fast enough to give them free food and shelter.
I don't usually comment here but Mr. Ree, that is incredibly racist. The people of New Orleans were definitely not getting help fast enough. In times of crisis, the government steps in but the government dragged their heels getting aid to those in need in New Orleans.
In New Orleans most of the people who ignored the warnings to leave the city were African American, all of the people shown looting were African American, the city is predominately African American. Missouri is not a redneck state but the majority of the people there are caucasian and in area's were cities have been destroyed that were predominately caucasian the residents as a majority get involved with helping each other to rebuild and recover and the same can be said for area's along the Ohio and Mississippi river where towns that have been threatened by floods the residents banded together to build sandbag walls and fortify existing flood walls and to help evacuate those in danger. The problem with African Americans today is they have a sense of entitlement instead of an understanding that everyone has to work for what they need and what they want and no one is owed anything other than the rights afforded to them by the constitution.
The fact that you even speak english says something about America...we probably have kept (or are helping) your country from being wiped out financially, morally or militarily...we've spent more of my hard earned money to help other worthless countries (like yours) than we spend on helping ourselves....think about it.
I think the building codes for those areas, where tornado are more likely to strike, should be more strict.. Building materials like masonry or reinforced concrete should be used more often.

I've got news for you, masonry and brick won't stop a tornado.
Building engineers have fired pine 2x4's out of air cannons and punched holes in 8 inch thick steel reinforced concrete.
Tornado’s are one mother natures nastiest events that occur frequently. May of 1985 we had one that ripped through western PA. Yourga trucking in Wheatland pa was just about wiped out. Their steel warehouse was flattened. The tornado picked up 50,000 pound steel coils and deposited them in the swamp 1/2 a mile away.
That tornado came with 1/4 mile of my sisters house, even though it turned her house still had substantial damage. her neighbors down the road single story brick house was moved 16 inches off its foundation. And that wasn't a direct hit

Who's going to pay for them?
