Those are all from one cartel called the zetas. They are ex Mexican military that were trained in the US by the US military. They were used by one of the other mexican cartels as enforcers until they decided to go into business for themselves. Legalizing pot wouldnt put any dent in the war. Theres still cocaine, meth and other types of illegal substances that theyll continue to fight to be the top distributor of.
@ KungFu Grip, here in holland it's legal. we never have issues with pod. if there happens something its big news even if its one kill. if theres a kill in mexico it isnt even news. you cant die of pod and its illegal you can die of alcohol and it is legal
@2Cool4Ice But in Holland we also have our drug wars and the deaths that come with it. Smoking and buying pot may be kinda legal but growing it and distributing is not. So that part is still in the hands of the criminal organizations. And allthough they can't be compared to the Los Zetas by far, they do kill (more and more). That is why pot should be made fully legal.
KungFu Grip is right. Legalizing pot would not make the Mexican drug war situation any different. Weed trade is just a relatively small part of it. As long as the western world also demands cocaine and other stuff (and they always will), this will always be a problem. There is just too much money to be made. Also without the pot. Legalizing and regulating that stuff also would solve most of these drug war problems. But that will probably never happen.
You are an idiot if you don't think those weapons came from the U.S. Our gov. has acknowledged the fact. If they get more than a wrist slap they will just go to the private sector and make even more $. U.S. and Mexico know exactly what they are doing by keeping the flow of drugs moving.
The article states - 'Nearly all of the weapons that the drug cartels obtain come from the US since weapons are illegal in Mexico.'
This is a complete fabrication...Aside from the ill conceived Justice/ATF operation that supplied 2000 weapons to straw buyers, it has never been shown that cartel weapons come from the US. The great majority come up through South and Central America from sources in Europe and Asia. Many of those rifles are AK-47 knockoffs not manufactured or available in the US. The grenades shown here appear to be a Czech product.
Stop the propaganda that Obama and Holder are trying to disseminate to buy a backdoor to US gun control. Fucking liberals...
You need to edit your headline "Nearly all of the weapons that the drug cartels obtain come from the US since weapons are illegal in Mexico." In fact, only approx. 10% of the firearms confiscated from the Mexican drug cartels can be traced back to the U.S.
You need to read up on Operation Fast and Furious (the Gunwalker scandal) to understand the politics of what is going on with the numbers you're hearing and how by allowing Mexico to be flooded with assault weapons the Obama administration was hoping to reinstate the assault weapon ban. It was a Machiavellian attempt in achieving a political goal that has instead resulted in the death of 3 U.S. border agents and hundreds of innocent Mexicans due to an unscrupulous administration. I wouldn't let Google search summaries be the end all when passing judgment on issues you are too distanced from to understand completely.
qb4Sne I`m so grateful that you enlightened me and the most important thing that it happened in time. Just think, I have been using the internet for six years already but it`s the first time I`ve ever heard about it!...
