FDR extended the depression by a decade or more according to economists. It was only after the war when America had basically no competition for its goods that the USA recovered despite his horrific economic policies.

After expectations were raised of a possible deal , talks to resolve the nation's debt-ceiling crisis appeared to reach a new stalemate, as the sides pursued separate plans. Congress must reach a deal now to raise the federal debt ceiling through 2012 because you don't want politics messing around with America's faith and credit.
