Some of the pics are not from the US.
Most of the structures that have been damaged were built in area's that are not typically prone to hurricane damage. I live along the mid atlantic coast near the capital and the vast majority of the homes did not sustain any damage including those right at the ocean front. As long as stick built homes are built right they can handle hurricane force winds but many of those that did get damaged in the north east were not built to handle these winds.
