yes, its all nice and pretty... and this list above only proves that quality is more than quantity...

Which means if you talk about future, Rihana, Ka$a and others will be forgotten... Beatles, REM and Others Not.

Skewed stats. The population now is much larger than it was 20 - 40 years ago. It's easier for people to have access to music to buy than before the Internet.
If you want to make a fairer "sales" comparison, you would need to compare the number of people that have illegally downloaded a song (a stat that will never be known) against the number of people that 'illegally' taped a song from the radio or ripped it from a CD or pre-recorded tape (a stat that will never be known).
To compare the popularity of Katy Perry to Jacko is absurd. When Jacko released a new song/video, it was an EVENT.
This whole list is fucked.

Justin Bieber is a GOD. I jerk off to his picture every day.

the population of capitalist citizens who was able to buy records and the number of tracked purchases was like 10 times less in 60s and 70s (consider ex communist russia & china + westernized india + balkans + africa)

My first thought was like the population its more and than those days of rem, etc, the marketing and the media are so much invasive now than ever, like i dont change the channel from an katy perry video just for watching her, i dont use the mute button just for not look like a total wanker, so we listen to boobs blings and junks.

And im totally agree with trtr,

And im writing from hell, they have unlimited drugs FOR FREE!
