Yeah, I guess they're from MEMENTO MORI. All these kids are dead. That's why a person has to be behind them to hold them. They used to take pics of dead people in old days. Watch "The Others", directed by Alejandro Amenábar.

If they were memento mori I don't see the point of people with drapes over them. You could just prop them up with whatever. Then again if the kids are alive the presense of their mother, even covered up, would probably make the kid stay still for the new seconds that it takes to take a picture in those days.
