From time to time the municipality of Rome cleans the famous Trevi Fountain and gathers coins thrown by tourists “for luck.” This procedure is performed under the supervision of Carabinieri who count all coins. According to the special order, each coin becomes community property once it has touched the bottom of the fountain. Tourist donations bring Rome hundreds of thousands of euros annually. Goldfield used to be the biggest city in the state of Nevada with 30,000 citizens in 1904. It was a mining boomtown, but the gold mines started to run out by 1920s. And the fire of 1923 destroyed most of Goldfield’s wooden buildings. Nowadays this semi-ghost town is still populated with about 400 people. Most of the buildings are empty, including the abandoned High School of Goldfield.
