After seeing these images, I think that all the European and Caucasian races are the result of some sort of ligth albinism happened to African races :P (Hhehehee my half assed pseudo science)

Actually, it has occured to me as well that having white skin and blue eyes is a kind of a local Northern mutation. Just think of all the animals who live in the North and have white fur, skin and feathers, unlike their Southern relatives.

apparently blue eyes first arose about 8,000 years ago in a single individual in what is now the country of rumania. for all the rest of mankind's existence, man had brown eyes, other than perhaps albinos, whose eye color comes from different genetic switches. blue eyes are in effect brown eyes with diluted pigment.

Obviously they look strange, but I can't help to wonder that despite all of their problems - poverty, medical issues -, they look happy. It might just be the novelty of being photographed that helped them forget about their lives, but it's still... cute.
