But note the difference between:

Ich bin Hamburger
Ich bin ein Hamburger

There is a similar difference between

Ich bin Berliner
Ich bin ein Berliner

For some reason, the politician visiting Hamburg, declaring "Ich bin ein Hamburger" was ridiculed, but he who visited Berlin, declaring "Ich bin ein Berliner" was applauded.
