Actually the best part of the Belomlinsky's illustrations was the super freaky Gollum) When I was little that picture scared me as hell. Fifth from the top on this page:

Not sure you can use sendak in the same sentence as Frazetta when referring to great illustrators... but I see where you are going..

That's right... you did once refer to yourself as "an artist"... so you must be quite educated in this... well at least as much as you are with your understanding of global warming.. oh and nutrition...

Didn't really like the 1942 children book club one
1962 portugese edition was pretty good
1975 Frank Frazetta's Bilbo was good too but he looks more like Frodo :)
Favorite is the 2012 Bilbo!
