Hu Yang is an ordinary eight year old schoolboy who attends school everyday. However, in the Fujian Province of China in which he lives, the other children who used to attend school with him have either quit school or left with their parents in search of work in the cities. Now, Hu is the last remaining pupil of the original 80 pupils who attended the school and receives tutelage, alone, from two teachers each day.
