#3 and #4 Him? There are two persons there, the shoe polisher and the customer. I think they are both equally important here, although they probably was not when this photo was done. Even more, there was a lot of people in the street, but they disappeared because of the long exposure time.

Sequence Photographs (1872)

Using 16 cameras lined up in a row and a tripping mechanism, Eadweard Muybridge created this series of animal motion. This also answered the nagging question of the day, whether all four feet of a horse were off the ground at the same time while at a gallop. Yes, they are!
