Many people have the word 'earned' and the word 'paid' mixed up. Jordan is paid that money. Does he earn it? That is the opinion of the people that give him the money. Is he worth it? That's not for me to say but if someone (or some companies) offered the money to me, I certainly would accept it regardless of what others may think.
Jordan entertained the world and was literally the centre of attention for 10 years in the late 80's and 90's. And his brand is one of the most popular in the world. The man earned it
jordan was a right bastard of a player, but he did play by the rules in all respects, and become endlessly adored, admired, imitated.
gates stole valuable time (in that era) from university mainframes to learn computers, then slapped his brand name on someone else's OS software and sold it to another party to fund his startup. from that point on, he and his minions stole concepts and bullied countless smaller companies to build the microsoft empire and make a huge fortune. nobody that i know of has ever wanted to be a thief and bully of his ilk. furthermore, i think any rich person can play philanthropist with spare money, but it takes a rare asshole to play philanthropist with other peoples' money whose dreams (and startups) got crushed along the way. crushed by a grandmaster expert in, essentially, scamming and thievery. one whose top-notch legal team always wore down, out-waited, and outmaneuvered the competition by the end.
