So, this guy is bashing inkjet printers, while in the beginning he is also giving the reason why printers do this. That is just plain stupid.

Not only do they waste ink and the replacement cartridges sometimes cost as much or more than a new printer, but new printers come with ink cartridges with very, very little ink inside so you have to buy replacements soon. Some brands have computer chips in their factory cartridges that keep track of how much ink has passed through them and will not allow you to use a generic cartridge that does not have this chip and/or will no longer work after it has been refilled once or twice - forcing the user to buy a NEW, FACTORY cartridge.
It's a scam.

I can't stand the practice of "starter cartridges" that come in new printers. Just not worth it.

These days, it's better off to go laser printer and refill them yourself. Though many cartridges gave a timer circuit on them to force a replacement. Luckily, these can often be reset or hacked.

Big industry wants its $$$.

I own a Pixma a long time , i even own a chip resetter, i havent bought a cartridge since it is in my house. just refill and reset. works perfect for over 5 years now.

I can tell you the fuser replacement cost and cleaning requirements for laser printers can be worse. Like everything else in the real world, continued use wears things out. If they don't clean the heads of the ink jet, it will get hard and stop working. Sad but true.

I also have a Canon Pixma MP250 that I bought 3 years ago and only used it for 2 days. Then I unpacked it last month since my Kodak printer had run out of ink. It prints perfectly still on the original cartridges. Kodak doesn't make printers anymore for obvious reasons so don't even buy a used one. Avoid HP and Lexmark as well since they both have this ink leaking problem. What a scam!

I had a Pixma too, with separated ink cartridges. Then i bought an Epson. NO MORE EVER! It decided that because the yellow were running low, wont print anything at all. Sunday night, before my hand up date on Monday Morning at the College. Just before I wanted to print out my essay... I swear, next day I torn to pieces by my hand. After it wasnt the first time it made my work miserable. Not mentioning the fucked up colors with photos. Then I bought pixma again, and I have peace... I buy a set of inks for less than 5 £ online...

I put a CISS onto my Epson R300 about 8 years ago. I've had to reset it four times to get rid of the forced maintenance message. I've been expecting this reservoir to overflow for several years now, but it keeps going strong...
