After growing more worried for him, I decided to google what to do. I learned that he was most likely tweeting to his mom, who could hear him from two blocks away, but was most likely too scared to come get him because he was near us. We then decided to move him away from us.

He was constipated. After he dropped a big turd on the plate, he could fly andd took off.

Bird parents don't 'come get their young'. If they fall from the nest, the mother bird *might* try feeding it, but it's outcome is most likely death.

i believe that's true with a lot of passerine birds, since the mother sometimes (or often) lets the stronger ones push the weaker ones out of the nest in order to maximise food supplies.
but this one was obviously in a later stage. mother would therefore have more invested in it, and a reason to come looking for it. still, it would depend on the species. (a wren?)

who said anything about human emotions? sounds like someone needs to watch their very first nature documentary.
