15 year old Isabelle Papandronicou had her leg amputated due to a congenital disease that caused her right shinbone to be weak and fracture. The teenager was determined to lead a normal life. But there was one ambition that the 15-year-old’s new limb seemed destined to thwart. Isabelle had her heart set on dressing up and attending her school prom. She was fitted with a conventional prosthetic leg that meant she was limited to wearing flat shoes but she dreamed of going to her school prom in high heels. Her parents helped raise the funds for the new leg, which cost $9000 and Isabelle was able to attend prom in high heels and dance the night away with her friends.
First, she looks about 30, not 15. She deserves praise for being tough enough to continue on and make a good life for herself despite her handicap but having her parents raise $9,000 because their little girl is vain strikes me as wrong.
Her classmates obviously know of her disability, so showing up with two legs will be more shocking then if she used her regular peg or whatever she uses everyday.
I think there are better things to invest 9k in.
Plus, once everyone is drunk and she's bent over a chair and guys are lining up to take turns on her, no one, and I mean NO ONE, is going to give a shit about her fancy new leg.
